Rahul Gandhi

After his recent visit to Dubai, a video clip is doing rounds that shows Rahul Gandhi as saying, “Mahatma Gandhi picked up the idea of non-violence from ancient Indian philosophy, from Islam”.

In his speech, Rahul Gandhi mentioned of Islam as the source of Mahatma Gandhi’s non-violence, and this 10-second video has led to massive outrage on social media platforms, especially among the right-wing social media users, who are trolling him badly for this.

The founder of the fake-news website, Postcard News, who is followed by Prime Minister Modi, is among those who shared this video.

A Pakistani-Canadian commentator, Tarek Fatah, also shared the video.

The Truth:

The 10-second clip that is circulating on social media is a curtail version of a longer video. Alt News obtained the full video, and the relevant part of Rahul Gandhi’s speech can be seen in the video below starting at 23:37.

It is very clear in the video that Rahul Gandhi was praising India when he said, the Indian philosophy of non-violence is a solution for the violence and anger afflict the world. He did not single out any religion as it was seen in the 10-second clip.

Alt News has reported multiple occurrences of misinformation where there is an attempt to depict political parties or individuals who are in opposition to BJP as favouring Islam as a religion, and thereby anti-Hindu.
