Chandrashekhar Azad ‘Ravan’

Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad ‘Ravan’, gave his full support to the newly formed Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party alliance for this year’s Lok Sabha election, on Sunday. He said, “The alliance has our full support. We will do hard work to stop BJP from coming to power in the 2019 (general) election.”

He was in Muzaffarnagar, on Sunday, to attend a dalit event, which drew a sizeable number of his supporters. They welcomed Chandrashekhar on the stage with anti-Modi slogans.

Speaking to the gathering, he said, “There was an alliance between SP and BSP in 1993, which was an ideological one, but this alliance now is a demand of the time. We will make this alliance stronger to stop the Bharatiya Janata Party from coming to power and we will work hard to realize this.”

He also disagreed with the Centre’s recent push for 10 per cent quota for the “economically weaker section” of the general category and said reservations should be based on caste (since) it’s not a poverty-alleviation scheme. He further added that when the dalit movement gets stronger this quota will be “abolished”.
