Imran Khan.

Hours after the Indian Air Force carried out air strikes in Balakot and elsewhere inside Pakistan, the Pakistani prime minister, Imran Khan, on Tuesday, held a special meeting of the country’s national security committee, in which he asked the country to remain “prepared for all eventualities”. Khan’s office said he will engage with world leaders to “expose irresponsible Indian policy”.

Pakistan’s national security committee, which comprises top officials, including the prime minister and chief of Pakistan’s army, stated that it “strongly rejects Indian claim of targeting an alleged terrorist camp near Balakot and the claim of heavy casualties.”

It said India “committed uncalled for aggression” with the strike and vowed to respond at a “time and place of its choosing”. The panel also alleged that the air strikes were carried out for “domestic consumption in an election year”. The Lok Sabha election are scheduled to be held by May.
