Anant Hegde mocks Rahul Gandhi, says ‘how son of a Muslim became brahman?’
BJP MP from Uttara Kannada and Union minister Anant Kumar Hegde, on Sunday, mocked the Congress president, Rahul Gandhi, for allegedly asking for proof of casualties in the Indian Air Force’s air strike against Jaish-e-Muhammed camp in Pakistan’s Balakot.
Hegde sparked a controversy when he rhetorically questioned how the “son of a Muslim could become a (Hindu) brahmin named Gandhi”. He asked what proof Rahul Gandhi had to prove he was a brahman.
Hegde said, “Look what situation they have brought our country down to. The entire world is acknowledging our bravery. But some people within our own country have raised doubts. They want proof for our IAF’s air strikes against Pakistan but how did the son of a Muslim become a brahman named Gandhi? What proof do they have? He was born to a Muslim father and Christian mother. How does he become a brahman?”

This Muslim who calls himself a 'janeudhari Hindu', son of a Muslim father & a Christian mother, does he have proof that he is a Hindu"? (10.3.19) pic.twitter.com/FWXFky5jXH
