Arun Jaitley says ‘intriguing that Congress needs lessons on national security’
Union minister Arun Jaitley, on Friday, took pot shots at the Congress, saying it is “somewhat intriguing” that the party which ruled India for half a century needs to be “educated on national security issues”, a day after the grand old party roped in the architect of the 2016 "surgical strike" Lieutenant Genera DS Hooda (retired) to head its task force to create a vision for national security.
In a blogpost on Facebook, Jaitley also asked Congress not to give an impression that India is divided on how to fight terrorism.
Jaitley wrote: “The (Congress) party which has ruled the country for over half a century should need to be educated on national security concerns is somewhat intriguing. I am sure amongst the various advices that experts will render to the Congress President on strategic issues …”
He wrote: “I am sure the head of the advisory panel would educate the party leaders that the surgical strikes were no routine step which had been taken several times in the past, but a significant first for India.”
Jaitley acknowledged General Hooda as an experienced and distinguished former officer of the Indian Army and wrote: “I have not the least doubt that he would give a very valuable advice to the grand old party.”
