Outspoken Samajwadi Party senior leader and Rampur MP Azam Khan said madrasas (schools run by Islamic bodies) don’t produce people like Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse or 2008 Malegaon blasts accused Pragya Singh Thakur.

While talking to reporters in Rampur, Azam Khan, he took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s plan to connect madrasas to mainstream education.

Khan said, “Madrasas do not breed people with Nathuram Godse’s nature or with a personality like Pragya Thakur.”

He further added, “First, (the government must) announce that those propagating thoughts of Nathuram Godse will be declared enemies of democracy, those convicted for terror activities will not be rewarded.”

Pragya Thakur, who has been elected from the Bhopal Lok Sabha seat on a BJP ticket, recently called Godse a “patriot”.
