Captain Amarinder Singh.

Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh, on Monday, said that he never was in the favour of supporting any radicals and will never allow them to resurface in Punjab because the state had already paid a heavy price during the troubled days of militancy.

Talking to reporters when responding to the allegations that his Congress government was “hobnobbing” with radical elements in the state to get control over the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandhak Committee, he said, “I do not have any understanding with radicals. Will I ever support such thing?”

He added that he will support anybody who’s a Sikh and truly believes in the management of gurdwaras and will not use these things for the political ends.

Singh made it very clear that Congress party doesn’t get in politics of religion on any point. He said, “But there is always a limit. Badals have already done enough of damage to gurdwaras. And if any organization comes ahead and takes control of SGPC, then I am going to support them totally. But I won’t let any radicals to surface in state. Badals aren’t moderates but are opportunists.”
