Congress accuses Smriti Irani of ‘falsifying’ educational records, calls her a ‘serial liar’
The Congress, on Friday, alleged that Smriti Irani, Union minister and Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from the Amethi Lok Sabha seat, had falsified records of her educational qualification and submitted contradictory affidavits to the Election Commission and called her a “serial liar”.
A Congress spokeswoman, Priyanka Chaturvedi, said that being an undergraduate is not a problem, but Irani has repeatedly lied about being one. Chaturvedi, while accusing her of being guilty of offence under Section 125A and Section 33 of the Representation of People Act, further demanded that Irani should be disqualified from contesting the Lok Sabha election.
Chaturvedi said, “We have no issue with the fact that Smriti Irani is not a graduate. The issue here is that she has lied repeatedly on oath and to the courts. People of India will see through these lies and give a befitting political reply to a ‘serial liar’.”
Mocking Irani, Chaturvedi also hummed a parody jingle from one of Irani’s television serials, “Kyon ki saas bhi kabhi thi”, by titling it as “Kyonki mantri bhi kabhi graduate thi”.
