Congress to Narendra Modi on India’s first woman defence minister: ‘Brush up your history’
The Congress launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Friday, when it told the prime minister to “brush up his history” and said Indira Gandhi was the first woman defence minister of the country and not Nirmala Sitharaman.
Taking to Twitter, the party took pot-shots at Modi and wondered if he had “missed this chapter during his ‘Entire Political Science’ degree”.
The Congress’s official Twitter handle tweeted:
FYI, Smt Indira Gandhi was the first woman Defence Minister of India - you should brush up your history - incase you missed this chapter during your Entire Political Science degree. https://t.co/w3QEjkUpHH

The Congress’s comment came in response to Modi’s praises for the defence minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, in an election rally in Kanyakumari. Modi said, “I am proud that India’s first woman defence minister is from Tamil Nadu.”
According to a Gujarat University degree, Modi had completed his post-graduation in “Entire Political Science” from the university in 1983 and had scored 62.3 per cent as an external student of the varsity.
