Senior Congress member and party spokesman RPN Singh said the SP-BSP alliance in Uttar Pradesh without the Congress was what the BJP exactly wanted initially, and the two regional parties have fallen into the saffron party’s trap.

He said, “The Bharatiya Janata Party wanted the secular parties to remain divided so that they contest independently … and their votes could be split. And they have somehow succeeded in their plan.”

On Sunday, the Congress said that they will contest on all 80 Lok Sabha seats in UP in the upcoming general election. However, the party was left out of the Samajwadi Party-Bahujan Samaj Party alliance, but this will not affect its prospects and the Congress would contest with “full force”.

Singh raised some doubts over the longevity of the Akhilesh Yadav-Mayawati alliance and speculated that it would not last.

BSP chief Mayawati and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, on Saturday, announced their tie-up for this year’s Lok Sabha election and announced that they will contest on 38 seats in the Lok Sabha election.
