Amarjit Singh Dulat, former Research and Analysis Wing chief, on Saturday, said the Pulwama terror attack, in which over 40 CRPF personnel died, was a gift to the BJP ahead of the Lok Sabha election.

Dulat, while speaking in an award function in Hyderabad, said, “It was a gift to the BJP ahead of the general election and India had the right to carry out the surgical strike on terror camps in Pakistan. I have said this earlier also, and I am saying this now, the Pulwama terror attack was a gift by Jaish-e-Muhammed to (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi. As elections were due, it was expected that there would be a retaliation. It was inevitable that something would happen. The surgical strike deep in Pakistan was all right.”

In February, Dulat had advised that “aggressive diplomacy” instead of “coercive action” should be the way forward to tide over the current turmoil in Jammu & Kashmir.
