Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Giriraj Singh, known for attacking critics with his “send them to Pakistan” remarks, is upset that the party did not consult him before taking away his Nawada seat and instead selected him as a candidate for the Begusarai constituency for the Lok Sabha election.

Singh, in a conversation with Indian Express, said, “I have been done in by my own party’s state leadership, which has not displaced any sitting MP in Bihar … did not even ask me (before changing my seat). My self-respect has been hurt. I have nothing against the central leadership. The jolt to my honour and hurt to my self-respect has been inflicted by the state leadership.”

He added, “Chirag Paswan (ally and leader of Lok Janshakti Party Ram Vilas Paswan’s son) told me on phone that his party would be ready to leave the (Nawada) seat for him. The BJP state chief also said that I can fight from the seat I want. Chirag even said he wanted to give it to me, but what could he do if the NDA put it on his lap. That’s why I am hurt.”

Singh faces Communist Party of India candidate Kanhaiya Kumar and Rashtriya Janata Dal candidate Tanvir Hasan in the Begusarai contest. Kumar has already taunted Singh as “Pakistan visa minister”.
