After Mayawati’s decision that her BSP will contest the forthcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly byelections alone, the BJP, on Tuesday, said the “unexpected” SP-BSP alliance in Uttar Pradesh is set to collapse because it has been rejected by the people in the Lok Sabha poll.

While talking to reporters, BJP spokesman GVL Narasimha Rao said, “SP-BSP was an unethical alliance. The people of Uttar Pradesh have totally rejected this coalition and the result is that alliance has collapsed now.”

He said that in order to prevent Narendra Modi from becoming the prime minister again, the “mahagathbandhan” (grand alliance) was formed in the state. He said, “This was a combination of convenience and compulsion, which was prepared to stop Modi ji from becoming PM again.”

Rao further asserted that Mayawati’s decision to go solo in the bypolls was “predictable”. He added, “This announcement is something we had predicted months ago. PM Modi had said in his rallies that this was the coalition of facilities. This was a self-centred alliance.”
