Rahul Gandhi.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi, while addressing a cheering crowd of Indian expats at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, on Friday, praised Indian workers for developing the city by giving their own sweat, blood and time and making every Indian proud in the process. He also congratulated the United Arab Emirates for declaring 2019 as the “Year of Tolerance” and said that sadly intolerance is on the rise in his own country – India.

Gandhi said, “At here (in the UAE), it is the ''Year of Tolerance’, but back home (in India), I’m sad to say we have been witnessing intolerance for the last four-and-a-half years.”

Talking about unemployment, Gandhi said it is the biggest challenge in India and there is a need of another “green revolution” in agriculture. He said, “First big challenge is generating employment and we can beat China in this domain. Secondly, our farmers are in trouble and we need a second ‘green revolution’.”

The Congress president also asked the Indian diaspora in UAE to contribute in bringing India together that has been “divided for political and religious reasons”.

He said, “My beloved country is being divided for political reasons and benefits. It is being divided in different religions, communities, the rich and poor. Once again, we have to bring India together regardless of ideologies and thinking … once again, we have to bring India together, its people, religions and castes.”
