Lalu Prasad (L) and Nitish Kumar in happier times.

Former Bihar chief minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad, in his forthcoming biography – “Gopalganj to Raisina: My Political Journey” – has claimed that Janata Dal (United) and current Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar has wanted to realign with his party and get back into the Bihar mahagathbandhan (grand alliance). However, Prasad said, he shunned him because he had “lost trust” in Kumar completely.

In his book, which is co-authored by Nalin Verma, Prasad has also claimed that Kumar used to send JD(U) vice-president Prashant Kishor to convince him to take Kumar back to the mahagathbandhan.

“Kishor seemed to indicate that if I were to assure in writing my party’s support to JD(U), the latter would pull out of the Bharatiya Janata Party alliance and rejoin the mahagathabandhan. Though I was not bitter with Nitish, I had lost trust in him completely. Moreover, I was not sure how the people who had voted for the grand alliance in 2015, and the other parties that had united against the BJP all over the country, would react if I accepted Kishor’s offer,” Prasad said.

However, JD(U) secretary general KC Tyagi and deputy CM Sushil Modi have categorically denied the claims made by the Lalu Prasad. Prashant Kishor has refused to confirm anything.
