Kerala Congress chief Mullappally Ramachandran said during his Janamaha Yathra at Malappuram that his party was ready to hold talks with Communist Party of India (Marxist) to form a front to fight other parties and fascist forces only if the communist party sheds its political violence.

He said, “If the CPM is ready to shed politics of violence and its Stalinist thoughts, Congress is ready for an open discussion to form a secular democratic front to fight fascism.”

Ramachandran also said, “The CPM sees Congress as the main opposition. They don’t see the BJP as the main enemy. It’s not possible for the CPM to create a Left alternative at the national level.”

However, other Congressmen, like the party’s former state chief and MLA K Muraleedharan, didn’t like Ramachandran’s remarks. They said the Congress could do well without the help of the CPM.

Ramachandran’s comments were also ridiculed by the CPM, which said there is no need of the Congress’s cooperation in Kerala.

CPM senior leader MA Baby said, “The Congress has policies similar to that of the BJP.”
