During a discussion on Sabarimala in the Lok Sabha, the BJP MP from New Delhi, Meenakshi Lekhi, launched a scathing attack on the Pinayari Vijayan-led LDF government of Kerala for using force to enable women from entering the Ayyappa shrine. During her speech, she also took a jibe at the Supreme Court for lifting the ban on the entry of women in the revered Hindu temple.

While speaking on the issue, on Friday, Lekhi said, “Will the Supreme Court decide how Jesus took birth? Will the Supreme Court decide which body should be buried and which body should be burnt?”

She then said, “This is not a question of civil rights … these people in the name of feminist rights are actually transgressing upon our religion (Hinduism). They are not followers of Ayyappa … these are atheists. They have the right to be atheists, but they have no right to transgress (into others’ faiths).

On Wednesday, two women of menstrual age successfully entered the Sabarimala Ayyappa temple under heavy police protection.
