Hardik Patel.

Patidar leader Hardik Patel, on Saturday, urged the people across the country to unite against the Bhartiya Janata Party to defeat them in the 2019 Lok Sabha election. Patel said the 2019 general election “will bring out the power of people against ‘beimanon ki sarkar (government of the dishonest)’.”

While addressing the ninth convention of Sambhaji Brigade Maharashtra, a body affiliated to the Maratha Kranti Morcha, in Maharashtra’s Alibaug, Patel said, “Everyone says that every different group is demanding reservation, whether it is from patidars or from marathas, but no one is going to the root cause of it. Reservation demands come when people don’t have jobs or food. If the government provides that, I will quit the demand.”

He then said, “What was Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis doing when the Maratha Kranti Morcha silently protested 52 times? The government left them with no option but to be aggressive. The government could have instead used the money to give loans to farmers or securing jobs for the youth. In Maharashtra, many farmers commit suicide in drought-affected areas. This cannot be called ‘achchhe din’ (good times). So, I am going to call the people to join hands against this ‘beimanon ki sarkar’.”

He also slammed the government on the proposed Shivaji statute off Mumbai and said, “The BJP government is only making a show of building the Shivaji statue and setting its agenda of getting votes.”
