Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Thursday, claimed that he sensed a “massive Modi government wave” while addressing a rally in Assam's Silchar. He asserted that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance will win all five seats in Assam that went to vote in the first phase of the election on the day.

While addressing a rally in Silchar, Assam, Modi said, “Which way the winds are blowing, can be seen from your enthusiasm. Today voting is taking place in the first phase in some parts of the country. From what we know so far, a zabardast (massive) wave for ‘phir ek baar Modi sarkar (Modi government again)’ is visible.”

As Assam is the home of tea gardens and the core of tea industry, Modi focused on the “chaiwala” (tea seller) narrative and slammed Congress by saying the grand old party has “hatred” towards chaiwalas. He said, “Earlier, I thought they attacked me only because I am one (chaiwala). However, the Congress has not even glanced at the (problems of) tea gardens of Assam and Bengal in decades.”

He also said, “Those who have been born with golden spoons can only taste the tea. They don’t understand how one’s hands are cut while picking the tea leaves or how chemicals can cause diseases.”
