Announcing a scheme to distribute 10,000 cows to 5,000 families, Tripura chief minister Biplab Deb said the project, which will start from December, will help improve employment status in the state and people can eventually start earning within six months.

Speaking at an executive committee meeting of Tripura Pradesh Krishak Morcha, Deb said under the scheme, 5,000 farmers across the state will be provided with cows by facilitating bank loans the interest of which will be borne by the state government. He said the scheme provides 5,000 people against employment of just 2,000 people through other big industries where one needs to invest Rs 10,000 crore.

Deb was quoted as saying, “This project will help to solve unemployment in the state to some extent. It will go a long way in fulfilling demand for milk in the state. We shall be able to combat malnutrition by it as well.”

Deb also promised to continue providing government jobs in a fair and accountable manner.
