Kanhaiya Kumar.

Activist and student leader Kanhaiya Kumar, on Monday, reacted sarcastically when the news of him and nine others being charged in the 2016 Jawaharlal Nehru University sedition case broke. Kumar, talking to media, said the charges against him were “politically motivated” ahead of the Lok Sabha election and “thanked” Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Kumar said, “If the news is true that a chargesheet has been filed, I would like to thank police and Modi ji. The filing of chargesheet after three years, ahead of elections, clearly shows it to be politically motivated. I trust the judiciary of my country.”

The Delhi Police charged Kumar and nine others, including Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya, in the 2016 case where they allegedly raised anti-Indian slogans.
