Kanhaiya Kumar.

Kanhaiya Kumar, former Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union president and now, Communist Party of India candidate, will contest from Bihar’s Begusarai Lok Sabha constituency against Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Union minister Giriraj Singh.

Responding to the question on whether BJP’s Giriraj Singh is his contender or Rashtriya Janata Dal’s candidate Tanveer Hassan, he said, “I do not consider either of them as my contender. My fight is not against any individual but an ideology … against that ideology which talks about politics of polarization, divisiveness, attacking constitution and slamming democratic institutions. It’s a contest between haq aur loot (rights and loot); saach aur jhoot (truth and falsehood).”

Commentators have dubbed the fight between Kumar and Singh as the fight between David and Goliath with Kumar the underdog.
