Gen DS Hooda.

Former Northern Army Command general officer commanding in chief, Lieutenant General DS Hooda (retired), on Saturday, said the Indian Army conducted surgical strikes across the border  during the UPA rule too, news agency ANI reported. This comes amid BJP’s claims that it is the Narendra Modi government who carried out the first cross-border surgical strikes.

He further added that “It is not right for any political party to bring the army into the elections, as directed by the Election Commission. It will ultimately cause long-term damage to the institution.”

Gen Hooda was the Northern Army commander when Indian special forces carried out the September 2016 surgical strike against terror camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir following the Uri terror attack.
