After the BJP claimed that the Congress is trying to poach MLAs from their party, a confident Congress came out, on Wednesday, and dismissed the political crisis in Karnataka as nothing more than a drama orchestrated by the Bharatiya Janata Party president, Amit Shah, and his party’s rank for creating a perception of instability about the JD(S)-Congress coalition government.

Talking to reporters, on Wednesday, senior Congress leader, Mallikarjun Khagre said, “It is a ‘natak (drama)’ enacted by Amit Shah to create a perception that the (HD Kumaraswamy-led) JD(S)-Congress coalition government is unstable.”

He said, “BJP and its party president are using every agency from income tax department to Enforcement Directorate to instil fear in the minds of the MLAs and to get them to jump ship, but they have been unable to succeed (so far). In fact, they are hiding their own MLAs in Gurgaon. The alleged ‘kranti’ (revolution) on Makarsankranti never happened.”

He said, “Shah and BJP government are making every bid to form their government, but all the 118 MLAs are intact and are sticking to the principles they have been elected for.”

Kharge then added, “This is not the first time that the BJP is doing this. They have done it in Goa, Manipur, Uttarakhand, and Arunachal Pradesh. Now they are trying to replicate this in Karnataka, but they will fail.”
