Mayawati.

BSP chief Mayawati, who celebrated her 63rd birthday on Tuesday, has appealed to both the party workers of her own Bahujan Samaj Party and Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party to set aside their personal differences and agendas and work together to ensure the victory of the newly formed SP-BSP alliance in this year’s Lok Sabha election.

She said, “The victory would be the best birthday gift you can give me.”

While appealing to the party workers to ensure victory, Mayawati said Uttar Pradesh will decide which party forms the government at center and who becomes the Prime Minister. Akhilesh Yadav also made a similar pitch while announcing the BSP-SP alliance on January 12, saying he would be happy if UP sent the next PM to Parliament.

Keeping the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in mind, Mayawati has batted quotas for the economically backward Muslims and other religious minorities. As the Congress will be contesting independently, Muslims votes will be crucial for the success of the SP-BSP alliance.
