Misa Bharti, the daughter of Rashtriya Janta Dal leader Lalu Yadav, stirred a controversy when she said she “felt like chopping off” RJD loyalist-turned-rebel Ram Kripal Yadav's hands after he joined the BJP in 2014. Ram Kripal Yadav is a Union minister now in the Narendra Modi-led government.

While speaking at a public meeting in Patna, on Wednesday, Bharti, who is now an RJD Rajya Sabha MP, said, “He (Ram Kripal Yadav) used to cut chaff. We had huge respect for him. However, we stopped respecting him when he went on to join hands with Sushil Kumar Modi. At that time, I felt like cutting his hands with the same chaff cutting machine.”

Bharti lost to Yadav in the 2014 general election and is once again planning to contest from the same Pataliputra Lok Sabha constituency, where she lost.

Claiming that she didn't get enough time to prepare during 2014 polls, Bharti said she is “confident of her win” this time.

Ram Kripal Yadav had said that he had been a loyal RJD worker but felt betrayed after he was denied a ticket by the party in 2014. That was the reason, he said, he joined the joined the BJP and won from the Pataliputra Lok Sabha seat against Misa Bharati.

The Pataliputra seat is seen to be prestige issue for the Lalu Yadav family, although both Lalu Yadav and his daughter, Misa Bharti, have unsuccessfully contested from there. In the 2009 Lok Sabha election, Lalu Yadav had lost the Pataliputra seat to Ranjan Yadav.
