Narendra Modi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Thursday, while addressing a rally at Gurdaspur in Punjab, attacked the Congress party referring to the infamous anti-Sikh riots in 1984. He has also targeted the Madhya Pradesh chief minister, Kamal Nath, without naming him, for his alleged involvement in the riot.

Modi, in Hindi, said, “Jinka itihaas hazaron Sikh bhai behno ko berahmi se hatya ka ho aur jo aaj bhi dango ke aaropiyon ko mukhyamantri pad ka puruskar de rahe hain, un logon se Punjab samet desh vasiyon ko satark rehne ki zarurat hai. (Those whose history involves the killings of thousands of Sikhs and those who continue to appoint riot-accused persons as chief ministers of states, Punjab and the entire nation should beware of such people).”

Modi has assured people that the decision to agree with Khatarpur corridor was taken considering the faith of crores of Sikhs. While making reference to the Punjab Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu’s Pakistan visit for the groundbreaking ceremony for the Kartarpur corridor, Modi said, “Just for their politics, Congress leaders gave a chance to Pakistan. It is surprising that these Congress leaders did not even pay heed to their own Punjab CM.”

This was Modi’s first rally ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha election.
