Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Saturday, while addressing an election rally at Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, took a dig at the Congress president, Rahul Gandhi, and said the latter’s father, former PM Rajiv Gandhi, died as “Bhrastachari No. 1”.

Modi, apparently bitten by Rahul’s slogan of “chowkidar chor hai”, implying the prime minister is a thief, accused the Congress for tarnishing his image over the Rafale warplane and, without taking Rahul’s name, said, “Your father has termed Mr Clean by his courtiers but his life ended Bhrastachari No. 1 (Corrupt No. 1).”

He said that by hurling abuses you can not dissolve 50 years Modi’s tapasya (struggle) in dust.

Modi also added that by tarnishing my image and by making him small, these people want to form an “unstable and a weak” government in the country.
