Narendra Modi calls for ‘unity and brotherhood’, says ‘virus knows no religion, caste’
The prime minister, Narendra Modi, called for unity and brotherhood in the country’s response towards the fight against the new coronavirus, Covid-19, and said the virus doesn’t see religion and caste before infecting a victim.
The official handle of the Prime Minister’s Office tweeted Modi’s statement.
COVID-19 does not see race, religion, colour, caste, creed, language or borders before striking.

Our response and conduct thereafter should attach primacy to unity and brotherhood.
We are in this together: PM @narendramodi
This comes after the Islamophobic outrage in the country that erupted when it emerged that Muslim attendees at religious congregation organized by the Tablighi Jamaat, a Muslim group, got infected from a “single source” and then unwittingly infected more than 4,000 people all across the country. The meeting was held at Delhi’s Nizamuddin area between March 10 and 13.
