Narendra Modi cites PF data, says ‘crores of jobs created’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Thursday, during his reply to the motion of thanks on the president’s address in the Lok Sabha, has claimed that crores of new jobs have been created in both unorganized and formal sectors.

While mentioning the data from provident fund, income-tax filings and National Pension System, Modi said 1.8 crore people got enrolled in the Employees’ Provident Fund in the 15 months till November 2018. 1.2 crore employees became part of NPS by October 2018 and 6.35 lakh professional have filed income-tax returns in the last four years, he has claimed.

The prime minister said, “We have become the second largest steel producer, second largest mobile phone manufacturer, fourth largest automobile manufacturer in the world. We are a nation with a bumper harvest production.”

Recently, the National Sample Survey Office recently published its periodic labour force survey that was due in December last year. It has revealed that the unemployment rate was at its highest in 2017-18 since last 45 years.
