Nitin Gadkari says ‘Indian will stop eastern rivers’ water flow to Pakistan’
Union minister Nitin Gadkari, on Thursday, stated that the Narendra Modi-led central government has decided to stop its share of waters from the eastern rivers flowing to Pakistan in the wake of the deadly Pulwama terror attack.
The Union minister tweeted that the government has decided to stop our share of water which used to flow to Pakistan and India will divert water from the eastern rivers and supply it to our people in Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab.
Under the leadership of Hon'ble PM Sri @narendramodi ji, Our Govt. has decided to stop our share of water which used to flow to Pakistan. We will divert water from Eastern rivers and supply it to our people in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab.

However, a ministry official, has clarified that Gadkari is only repeating what he has been saying in the past. The official said, “He is talking about diverting India’s share of Indus water which was going to Pakistan – and he has always been saying this.”
Under the 1960 Indus Water Treaty between India and Pakistan, India has control over the three eastern rivers of Beas, Ravi and Sutlej, which are the tributaries of the Indus river. The western rivers are Indus itself and its tributaries Chenab and Jhelum.
