On Sabarimala row, Smriti Irani says ‘will you take blood-stained sanitary napkin to a friend’s house?’
On the Supreme Court’s verdict on Sabarimala temple allowing menstruating women to enter the temple, Union textile minister Smriti Irani, on Tuesday, said “while everyone has the right to pray, not to desecrate.”
According to media reports, a news clip was tweeted by CNN-News 18, where Irani is heard saying: “I am nobody to speak on the Supreme Court verdict because I am a serving Cabinet minister.” The tweet was later deleted.
Irani further said, “Would you take sanitary napkins soaked in menstrual blood into a friend’s home? So, why would you take them into the house of God.” She has remarked it in the wake of an activist’s intended move to take carry a blood-soaked sanitary napkin into the Sabarimala temple.
In a tweet, Irani wrote that since many were talking about her remarks, she would like to say that as a practicing Hindu married to a practicing Zoroastrian, she isn’t allowed to enter a fire temple to pray.”
Since many people are talking about my comments — let me comment on my comment.

As a practising Hindu married to a practising Zoroastrian I am not allowed to enter a fire temple to pray.
