P Chidambaram hits back at Narendra Modi, lists names of 14 non-Nehru-Gandhi Congress presidents

Former finance minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram, on Friday evening, has hit back Prime Minister Modi on his remark of choosing a candidate as its president from outside the Nehru-Gandhi family. Chidambaram, in a series of tweets, listed 15 names of former Congress presidents, including Acharya Kripalani, Pattabhi Sitaramayya, and Purushottamdas Tandon.

Chidambaram tweeted: “To jog PM Modi’s memory: among the Congress presidents since 1947 were Acharya Kripalani, Pattabhi Sitaramayya, Purushottamdas Tandon, UN Dhebar, Sanjiva Reddy, Sanjivaiah, Kamaraj, Nijalingappa, C Subramanian, Jagjivan Ram, Shankar Dayal Sharma, DK Barooah, Brahmananda Reddy, PV Narasimha Rao and Sitaram Kesri.”

Chidambaram further tweeted that he felt grateful that the prime minister has shown concern about who is elected as the Congress president.

Grateful that PM Modi is concerned about who is elected as Congress President and he devotes a lot of time talking about it. Will he spend half the time and speak about demonetisation, GST, Rafale, CBI and the RBI?

Earlier on Friday, Modi dared the Congress to choose its president from outside the Nehru-Gandhi family to prove that India’s first PM Jawharlal Nehru truly left behind a legacy of democracy.
