Prafulla Mahanta, AGP president, smells conspiracy to remove him from party

The founder and president of Asom Gana Parishad, Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, while maintaining his disapproval against the newly formed BJP-AGP alliance in Assam, talked about a “deep conspiracy” that is being planned to remove him from the party, on Thursday.

This comes amid rumours in Assam that he would be appointed as the governor and his wife Jaishree Goswami Mahanta will be elected to the Lok Sabha or the Rajya Sabha.

He said, “No party leader has discussed these issues either with me or my wife. This is a political conspiracy to remove me from the scene. This is an attempt to malign me and present me as an opportunist.”

He further said he just want to protect the interest of the people, to ensure the implementation of the Assam Accord. And added, “I cannot think of betraying the people of Assam and destroy the regional character of AGP by joining hands with communal and anti-Assam forces.”
