The Union human resource and development minister, Prakash Javadekar, said the country would witness anarchy if the BJP loses in this year’s general election and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is voted out of power. He said this, on Sunday, while taking pot shots at the opposition’s United India rally, which the Trinamool Congress leader and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee organized, on Saturday.

Talking to reporters, in Pune, Javadekar said, “All the opposition parties who banded together during Saturday’s rally in Kolkata wish to overthrow Prime Minister Modi. But then, who is the alternative? They are incapable of presenting an alternative … The situation in the country is such that there would be anarchy if there’s no Modi.”

He even dismissed the suggestion that any grand alliance of opposition parties could pose a threat to the BJP or Modi.

He said, “The Kolkata rally shows nervousness of the opposition. They did not draft any manifesto or a common minimum program but formed a panel on electronic voting machines. Does it mean they are already trying to find an excuse for their anticipated defeat in the election?”
