Priyanka Gandhi’s ‘why not Varanasi?’ quip raises eyebrows across political spectrum

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, on Thursday, sent a ripple across the political spectrum, after her cryptic “why not Varanasi?” quip in reply to a question.

During an interactive party booth worker meeting in Rae Bareli, she told the gathering that her mother, Sonia Gandhi, was tense as she could not accompany her. Then some workers requested her to contest from her mother’s parliamentary constituency Rae Bareli in the Lok Sabha election. Vadra then smilingly said: “Why not Varanasi?”

If Priyanka Gandhi Vadra contests from the Varanasi seat against Modi, then it would be the most high-profile contest of the current Lok Sabha poll. However, it seems to be only a spur-of-the-moment quip by her.
