Rahul Gandhi demands Arun Jaitley’s resignation, probe following Vijay Mallya’s claim
The Congress president, Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday, demanded an independent probe from the prime minister, Narendra Modi, on Vijay Mallya’s claim that the fugitive businessman had met the finance minister, Arun Jaitley, before he fled from India.
Earlier in the day, Mallya, who is facing charges of bank fraud in India, had claimed that he had “met Jaitley” and “repeated his offer to settle with the banks” before he left India.
In a tweet aimed at Modi, Rahul said:
Given Vijay Mallya’s extremely serious allegations in London today, the PM should immediately order an independent probe into the matter. Arun Jaitley should step down as FInance Minister while this probe is underway.
