Rahul Gandhi says CBI used as ‘weapon of political vendetta’ under Narendra Modi’s rule
The Congress president, Rahul Gandhi, attacked the prime minister, Narendra Modi, on Monday, and alleged that the Central Bureau of Investigation was being used as a “weapon of political vendetta” under the prime minister’s government.
Taking a dig at destructive internal war in the CBI between the agency's director Alok Verma and special director Rakesh Asthana, Gandhi particularly targeted the CBI’s special director Rakesh Asthana and blamed Modi government’s “interference” in the investigating agency.
In a tweet, Gandhi wrote: “The PM’s blue-eyed boy, Gujarat cadre officer, of Godhra SIT fame, infiltrated as No. 2 into the CBI, has now been caught taking bribes. Under this PM, the CBI is a weapon of political vendetta.” Gandhi tweeted, “An institution in terminal decline that’s at war with itself,” after CBI filled the case.
