Congress president Rahul Gandhi targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi by slamming series of questions and said the prime minister has “no guts” to answer. Opening the debate on the Rafale deal in Parliament, Gandhi, on Wednesday, said Modi can give a “fixed interview” for 95 minutes, but “doesn't have the guts to come to Parliament and face questions on Rafale”.

Gandhi said, “Yesterday, the PM seemed scared and tired in his interview. He said no one was questioning him on the Rafale deal. The whole country is questioning you.”

Gandhi also the reiterated his party’s demand for a joint parliamentary committee to investigate the deal.

The Lok Sabha witnessed high drama after Congress spokesman Randeep Surjewala played a purported audio tape of a Goa minister on the Rafale deal but refused to authenticate it.

Union finance minister Arun Jaitley, while countering Gandhi, said, “This man (Gandhi) lies repeatedly ... There are some people who have a natural dislike for truth. This is a case where there is a dislike for truth.”

Later, Gandhi, talking to reporters, also called Modi’s interviewer, Smita Prakash, “pliable”. He said, “You saw the prime minister's interview yesterday ... matlab (meaning) pliable journalist, she was asking questions and was even giving answers.”
