Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, on Monday, mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Main Bhi Chowkidar” campaign and claimed that Modi was trying to convert the whole country into chowkidars after being “caught” in the Rafale warplane deal.

Speaking at a rally in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi, Gandhi said, “Chowkidar was caught indulging in theft and as he was caught chowkidar says the whole of Hindustan is chowkidar. When he became Prime Minister, he said don’t make me Prime Minister, he said don’t make me Prime Minister, make me chowkidar, do you remember? He had never said make whole of Hindustan into chowkidars.”

Gandhi also said, “It is Narendra Modi’s wish that just as he scrapped ₹500 and ₹1,000 currency notes through demonetization, he wants to scrap the constitution.” He also accused Modi of spreading hatred between different faiths.

Incidentally, it was Rahul Gandhi, who first targeted the prime minister over the alleged irregularities in the Rafale deal with the “chowkidar chor hain (watchman is a thief)” slogan.
