Rahul Gandhi says ‘will give martyr status for KIA jawans, if voted to power’
Congress president Rahul Gandhi, on Thursday, in a rally in Killi Chahlan Village of Moga district, Punjab, launched its party’s poll campaign. The rally was initially named as “Jai Jawan, Jai Hindustan”, as a tribute to CRPF men killed in Pulwama terror attack.
While addressing a rally in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra later, on Thursday, he said that the whole Congress and opposition was standing with the government after Pulwama and Balakot air strikes but Prime Minister Narendra Modi politicized the issue. He assured that if his party comes to power, then CRPF and BSF men who were killed in action while fighting terrorists will also get the status of a martyr.

It shouldn't be that only CRPF or BSF aren't given the status. When our Govt comes,if a personnel is martyred in line of duty, he'll get status of a martyr" pic.twitter.com/EzS2Rl1ICt

This came in response to a question popped up on “martyr” status to the jawans during an interaction session between Gandhi and university students, on last Saturday, at the Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium.
Gandhi said, “I agree with you. Paramilitary jawans don’t get ‘martyr’ status. They should get it, and if we come to power, they will be accorded that status.”
