Union minister and Lok Janshakti Party chief Ram Vilas Paswan said there is barely a chance of a mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) against the NDA before or after the 2019 Lok Sabha election. Considering the differences that exist between the various political parties Paswan said Congress won’t allow any alliance government to complete its term if it’s not headed by the party itself.

Talking to Times of India, Paswan said, “The Congress has a track record of pulling down all governments when it extended support and was not leading it. It did so with Chaudhary Charan Singh, Chandra Sekhar, VP Singh, HD Deve Gowda, and IK Gujral. Whenever it headed the government, Congress party ensured it completed the full term.”

He said, currently there are three opposition fronts and there are several contenders for the prime minister’s post in each of them. Saying that all these fronts will be an advantage for the ruling BJP-led NDA, he said, “These will prove to be an advantage for the NDA, which has a clear line of leadership. The ruling alliance will raise these issues and fight on development plank against the divided house of opposition parties.”
