Shiv Sena says ‘Priyanka Gandhi will emerge as queen if she plays her cards well’
On Priyanka Gandhi-Vadra’s appointment as Congress’s general secretary and given the party’s charge for eastern Uttar Pradesh, the Shiv Sena, on Friday, said she will emerge as a “queen” if she “plays her cards well”. A key BJP ally in the NDA government at the Centre and in Maharashtra, the Sena, in its mouthpiece Saamana, also said Priyanka’s induction has shown that Congress chief Rahul Gandhi has displayed that he will do whatever it takes to win the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
In the Saamana editorial, the Sena also dismissed the comments by BJP leaders, who said Priyanka was formally inducted due to the Congress president’s “failure”, as having “no substance”. It said, with Priyanka induction, the Congress chief, who had been raising the Rafale issue, had only increased the problems of the Narendra Modi government.
Taking a sarcastic swipe at the BJP, the Sena said, “This will help the Congress. Even the Prime Minister had to speak over this (Priyanka’s entry into active politics). Even people have accepted a family, why does the stomach of some have to ache?”
Then in went on to say, “Priyanka bears an uncanny resemblance to her grandmother Indira Gandhi in looks and manner of speaking. Therefore, the Congress will surely benefit in the Hindi heartland.”, It said, Priyanka, like her grandmother, will emerge as a “queen” if she plays her cards well.
