Union textile minister Smriti Irani, who is the BJP candidate against Congress president Rahul Gandhi at his home turf in Amethi, on Sunday, appealed to the voters in the constituency to give farewell to their neither-seen-nor-heard “missing MP”.

Irani while addressing an election rally in Dharai, Amethi, urged voters to bid adieu to their MP, she asked the gathering to give “bidai” (farewell) to the “naamdar” (famous name/dynast) and send a “kamal” (lotus, BJP’s poll symbol) to New Delhi from Amethi this time.

She slammed Gandhi by saying, “The missing MP comes here once in five years when the nomination papers have to be filed. Had it not been mandatory to personally file the papers, he would not have come here at all.”

She further said while alleging that Gandhi has not even used his MPLAD fund on development of Amethi in the last 15 years, “I am sure the leader who is neither seen here nor heard in the Parliament will surely be given a farewell this time.”
