Supreme Court Aadhaar verdict: Mamta Banerjee says it is people’s victory
The chief minister of West Bengal, Mamta Banerjee, received the Supreme Court’s verdict on Aadhaar with open arms, on Wednesday, and hailed it as the “victory of the country’s people”.
While on an official tour in Milan, Italy, Banerjee said, “We welcome the verdict by the Supreme Court. It is a victory of the people of this country and we are very happy,” adding, “Days of the BJP government are over in the country.”
On Wednesday, the Supreme Court declared the Centre’s key base Aadhaar scheme to be constitutionally valid but struck down some of its provisions, which includes linking of Aadhaar number with bank accounts, mobile phones and school admissions.
