Uttar Pradesh BJP legislator Bukkal Nawab claims ‘Hanuman was a Muslim’
After Yogi Adityanath claiming Lord Hanuman as Dalit, a UP BJP lawmaker has come up with a different theory on the Hindu god's identity. Bukkal Nawab, who is a member of Uttar Pradesh’s legislative council from the state’s ruling party, Bharatiya Janata Party, claimed that Hanuman was a Muslim.
Talking to an ANI reporter, Nawab said, “Hanuman belonged to the entire world. He was loved by people of every religion, every sect, every community. But, as far as my beliefs go, he was a Muslim.”
And the politician's reason for arriving at this conclusion was equally curious.
To back his claim, he said, “I say Hanuman was a Muslim because the names of people in our religion, like Rehman, Ramzan, Farman, Zishan and Qurban, rhyme with the deity’s name.”

At an election rally in Rajasthan’s Alwar last month, Uttar Pradesh’s chief minister Yogi Adityanath had claimed that Hanuman was a Dalit. He had said: “Hanuman was a forest dweller, deprived and a Dalit. Bajrang Bali (another name of the Hindu deity) worked to connect all Indian communities together, from north to south and east to west.”
Following Adityanath’s claim, a Brahmin group in the state sent a legal notice and demanded an apology from him for his comment.
