Satpal Maharaj.

Uttarakhand tourism minister Satpal Maharaj, on Wednesday, said an FIR must be filed against the Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders who came to Dehradun and “took” hundreds of Kashmiri students back to the Kashmir valley. This comes in the wake of protests against Kashmiris in Dehradun following the Pulwama suicide attack on a CRPF convoy that left over 40 jawans dead.

Senior PDP leaders, on Monday, reached Dehradun and arranged transport for Kashmiri students who wished to leave Dehradun for a few days. The PDP leaders left Dehradun on Wednesday.

On this Maharaj said, “The PDP leaders are taking Kashmiri students from here (Dehradun). This is not right because the PDP leaders are not the parents of the students. The police must act. A FIR must be registered against them (PDP leaders).”

He further said, “The responsibility of safety and security of the Kashmiri students is on our government. The Kashmiri students are not in any danger here. They (Kashmiris) should be loyal towards the country.”

Responding to this a senior PDP leader Aijaz Ahmad Mir said, “Many of them were scared and wanted to leave, so we just helped them … instead of seeking a case against PDP leaders, the minister should have met and reassured Kashmiri students.”
