General VK Singh.

Amid the allegations and calming over the exact figure of terrorist killed in the air strike carried out by the Indian Air Force last week, Amit Shah, on Sunday, claimed that “more than 250 terrorists” were killed when the Indian Air Force bombed a Jaish-e-Muhammed terror camp in Pakistan’s Balakot. This created a stir as opponents and critics of the government wanted to know where Shah got the figure from.

The former Army chief and minister of state for external affairs General Vijay Kumar Singh, on Tuesday, said the death toll is not a “confirmed figure” and that the BJP chief meant that these many “might have died” in the air strike.

“That (casualty figure) was based on people who were housed in the buildings which were hit, it’s an estimate. He is not saying this is a confirmed figure, he is saying this many might have died,” Singh said.

Earlier, BJP MP and Union minister SS Ahluwalia said the idea to bomb Balakot was not to cause human casualties but to send a message.
