Yogi Adityanath.

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, who is the BJP’s star campaigner in this Lok Sabha election, drew criticism when he referred to the Indian Army as “Modi ji ki sena” (Narendra Modi’s army). Adityanath made this comment at a rally in UP’s Ghaziabad, on Sunday.

Adityanath said, “Congress ke log aatankwadiyon ko biryani khilate the aur Modi ji ki sena aatankwadiyon ko goli aur gola deti hai. (Congress used to serve biryani to terrorists, while Modi’s army give them bullets).” He said while campaigning for General Vijay Kumar Singh (retired) – the sitting MP Ghaziabad and Union minister. Incidentally, Gen Singh is a former Army chief.

Following this, former Navy chief Admiral L Ramdas, on Monday, said he will approach the Election Commission against Adityanath for referring Armed forces as “Modiji ki Sena”. He asserted that the armed forces do not belong to any individual and claimed that many veterans and those in the service were upset over it.

Admiral Ramdas said, “The armed forces do not belong to any one individual, they serve the country. Till the polls get over, the Chief Election Commissioner is the boss. I am going to approach the Election Commission in this regard.”

The Election Commission also took note of Adityanath’s remarks and sought a report from Ghaziabad district administration in this regard.
