Yogi Adityanath justifies Allahabad renaming, says ‘Prayagraj connects us to our roots’

In his justification for renaming of Allahabad to “Prayagraj”, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath said “the new name connects us with our traditions since it relates to Lord Ram.”
The chief minister was addressing a gathering at the “Gyan Kumbh” in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar.
He said the names related to Lord Ram hold great significant in our country and added: “When I changed the name of Allahabad, some people raised questions. Some said what is in the name. So, I said why didn’t their parents name them ‘Ravan’ or ‘Duryodhan’.”
